WATERVILLE, Maine — Actor and independent filmmaker Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance Film Festival, will deliver the commencement address at Colby College this spring.

The Waterville school’s 194th commencement exercises are scheduled for May 24 at 10 a.m.

Redford is known for his roles in dozens of films including All the President’s Men, Barefoot in the Park, The Natural and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

“Robert Redford represents with great honor and prestige so much of what we value at Colby,” Colby President David A. Greene said in a statement. “Throughout his distinguished career he has demonstrated a commitment to the open expression of ideas and the power of artful storytelling. We look forward to welcoming him to Colby and to hearing the insights he will provide to our graduating class.”

Redford, who was recently labeled the “Godfather of Indie Film by TIME magazine, will receive an honorary degree from the school.
