ST. FRANCIS, Maine — A Sanford man is facing multiple charges stemming from a single-vehicle crash in the St. John Valley late Tuesday night.
Bruce Bernier, 47, was headed south on Route 161 in St. Francis around 10:30 p.m. when he lost control of his 2002 Dodge pickup and skidded off the opposite side of the roadway, striking a mailbox, according to Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police.
The truck rolled over and came to a rest on its roof and Bernier fled before police arrived, Harris said late Wednesday.
Troopers found Bernier at a Fort Kent home shortly after the accident and he subsequently was charged with operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and violation of bail conditions.
Bernier suffered minor cuts from broken glass but did not require treatment, according to Harris.
The truck was declared a total loss.
