BANGOR, Maine — The owner of an Outer Hammond Street motel property plans to build a 5,400-square-foot restaurant next door.
On Tuesday night, Bangor’s planning board approved a conditional use and site development request from Kushi Realty Group, LLC, the company that owns the Motel 6 property and the land around it.
Brian Ames of Ames Architects is the project engineer. He said Kam Patel of Massachusetts, the owner of the Motel 6 property through Kushi Realty, wants to build the restaurant to accompany his hotel but expects to see some drop-in traffic as well. What the restaurant might be has not been revealed, but the building will have a drive-thru. The restaurant will share an entrance with the hotel.
“We hope to start construction fairly soon,” Ames said, adding he hopes to have crews do some of the early earthwork during the winter with construction starting in the spring.
“We’re going to go slow until the operator [of the restaurant] is identified,” Ames added.
The estimated cost of the project has not been released.
