WELLS, Maine — Wells police and fire officials are at Moody Beach, where the body of an elderly woman was discovered just after 7 a.m. Thursday.

A resident walking her dogs along the beach found the body face down in the surf, according to a release from Wells police Sgt. Kevin Chabot.

Chabot said the woman lived nearby. Police do not believe the death was suspicious and are working with the office of the chief medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.

Further information about the woman’s identity and how her body ended up on the beach was not immediately available.
