BOSTON, Massachusetts — A Rockland man died Tuesday from injuries he suffered in a weekend house fire in Portland that killed five other people, officials confirmed.
Steven Summers, 29, died at 5:29 p.m. at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland. Summers was severely burned during the fire Saturday morning on Noyes Street. Also killed in the blaze were Christopher Conlee, David Bragdon Jr., and Ashley Thomas, all of Portland, and Maelisha Jackson of Topsham.
The identity of another victim has not been released. All of the victims were in their 20s.
Investigators continue to probe the cause of the blaze, which destroyed the two-apartment house near the University of Southern Maine. The fire happened after a Halloween party, according to authorities.
The fire is the deadliest in Maine since a mother and six children perished in a fire in Eagle Lake on Nov. 30, 1974, according to McCausland.
