Virginia woman killed in Steuben crash

By Tim Cox, BDN Staff

STEUBEN, Maine — A Virginia woman was killed Sunday night when the vehicle she was driving went off the road and crashed, Maine State Police reported Monday.

Virginia Keiley, 74, of Hume, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on U.S. 1.

Keiley was driving north in a 2008 Toyota RAV4, the sole occupant of the vehicle, when she went off the highway near Roberto’s Auto Shop and Sales and crashed at about 7:15 p.m., according to Sgt. Jeffrey D. Ingemi.

There were no brake marks at the crash scene, leading police to believe a medical reason may have led to the accident or that Keiley fell asleep while driving, said Ingemi.

Keiley, who did not appear to be wearing a seat belt, was visiting the Milbridge area with her husband, according to Ingemi.

Further details about the accident were not available.

The Steuben Volunteer Fire Department and Petit Manan Ambulance assisted at the scene.
