AUGUSTA, Maine — Two city police officers involved in a motorcycle crash over the weekend continue to recover from their injuries.

Augusta Police Chief Robert Gregoire, his wife, Cathy, and Sgt. Chris Shaw are “recovering from their injuries and making progress with each day that passes,” Augusta Deputy Chief Jared Mills said Tuesday.

“I want to thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery,” Mills said in a statement.

Gregoire was participating in a charity ride in Jay when he lost control on a wet road, and Shaw, who was riding behind Gregoire and his wife, laid his bike down to avoid the crash.

While the Gregoires and Shaw are recovering, Mills said they are not ready to comment on the accident.

“They have asked that they have this time to heal and get well without any outside distractions,” the deputy chief said. “This time is very important for them to spend time with their family and friends.”
