ALDER STREAM TOWNSHIP, Maine — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the theft of a pair of mounted bear heads from a camp in Franklin County.
Sheriff Scott Nichols said Tuesday the thief or thieves took two mounted bear heads, two folding chairs and three flashlights from the camp off Route 27 sometime between April and Aug. 15.
The camp’s owners, who live in Waterboro, discovered the thefts Aug. 15 upon going to the camp for the first time since April, according to Nichols.
The sheriff said it’s possible the perpetrator or perpetrators knew where the camp’s keys were hidden. He added it’s unclear why the mounted bear heads were the stolen items of choice.
The camp is a remote part of Franklin County about 15 miles south of the Quebec border, Nichols said.
Anyone with information on the thefts should call the sheriff’s office at 778-2680.
