LOVELL, Maine — State police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl, according to a police spokesman.

Sophia Mae Frost, who lived in Lovell with her mother and a 5-year-old sibling, died Monday, according to Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland.

While foul play is not suspected in the child’s death, state police are investigating as is standard protocol in the death of a child age 3 or younger, McCausland said in a release Wednesday.

An autopsy was conducted on the child Tuesday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta, but a cause of death has not been determined.

McCausland said further testing is being called for by the medical examiner’s office.
