According to Shaw’s website, the company that operates Shaw’s recently became aware of what they call an unlawful intrusion to obtain credit and debit card information in some of its stores. However, there is no evidence of any actual misuse of credit and debit card information.

Shaw’s says the breach may have started on June 22 and ended July 17 at the latest.

It affects Shaw’s and Star Markets stores in Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

They said it’s not clear whether cardholder information was actually stolen, and they believe the breach has been contained.

Shaw’s said the investigation is ongoing, and it’s possible that other breaches could be identified.

Customers should keep an eye on bank and credit card statements to identify any possible fraud. Shaw’s says it will work with customers who believe they were affected by the data breach.
