SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A 32-year-old local man was charged with aggravated cultivation of marijuana Friday after personnel from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Skowhegan police executed a search warrant at his Norton Lane home.
Dustin Beane of 8 Norton Lane also was charged with violating the conditions of his release from a previous arrest and additional charges are pending, Skowhegan police Chief Edward Blais said in a news release issued late Friday afternoon.
During the raid, investigators found evidence of marijuana cultivation, hypodermic apparatus, 14 marijuana plants and other drug paraphernalia, Blais said.
Blais said the cultivation charge was elevated to felony status because of the growing operation’s proximity to North Elementary School. The Class C felony is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
