Acadians tip Penquis for fifth straight victory

BLUE HILL, Maine — Nick Bagley’s walk-off double driving in Tony Bianco beat Penquis 3-2 and earned the Acadians their fifth victory in a row Sunday and a 10-3 record in the Zone 1 American Legion baseball standings.

The Acadians also beat Motor City 8-2 Friday night at Husson University in Bangor, topped Hampden 9-4 on Wednesday in Blue Hill and edged Brewer 2-1 on Monday in Bucksport.

On Sunday, Gage Feeney went eight innings striking out 16, giving up no earned runs and only three hits and two walks for the Acadians.

Joe Archambault doubled twice with an RBI to lead the Acadians offense. Tony Bianco and Conor Maguire each had two singles while Jon Phelps and Hank Vinall also singled.

Steven Hanscom pitched the top of the ninth inning and got the victory.

Ryan Rebar was the hard-luck losing pitcher, going eight innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out 11. Abe Simpson, Aron Smested and Casey Jordan each had singles.

On Friday, Maguire led the Acadians nine-hit attack with three hits including a double, four runs and two RBIs. Dylan Collins had a clutch double with two RBIs and Bianco, Phelps, Feeney and Vinall each had singles.

Tom Paola earned the victory for the Acadians, pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two earned runs.

Bangor 4, Brewer 1

At Husson University’s Winkin Complex in Bangor, Justin Courtney allowed only one run in eight innings to help Bangor improve to 11-2.

Courtney and Sam Huston each recorded two singles and an RBI to spark the Bangor offense. Andrew Hillier chipped in with two singles and Ben Crichton smacked an RBI double.

Brendan Moore singled twice for Brewer (6-6) while Kyle Alexander and Matt Pushard each added a single.
