PORTLAND, Maine — Both CAT scan machines at Maine Medical Center’s Bramhall Street campus malfunctioned Thursday, leading some patients to visit another hospital for medical imaging.

The machines went down Thursday morning because of mechanical issues, said Maine Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Pierter. The hospital anticipated the equipment would come back online by Friday morning.

In the meantime, patients were set up with other imaging options, such as MRIs, and Maine Medical Center worked with other hospitals and emergency personnel to maintain “safe and consistent care” for patients, Pierter said.

A few nonurgent patients visited Mercy Hospital in Portland for CAT scans as a result of the malfunctions, said hospital spokeswoman Susan Corliss.
