SOUTH THOMASTON, Maine — Two South Thomaston men face drug trafficking charges after a three-month investigation by police into a midcoast bath salts operation. On Friday, search warrants were executed on the home and business of Herman “Rusty” Hoffman, 39, in South Thomaston and Waldoboro, and police found 500 bath salts capsules, three handguns and more than $26,000 in cash from drug proceeds along with drug ledgers, seven Maine EBT cards and several stolen Maine motor vehicle inspection stickers.
The capsules were being sold for $12 to $15 each. The Hoffmans were taken to the Knox County Jail. Herman Hoffman is being held on $2,000 bail. Michael Hoffman, 38, was released on unsecured bail. Additional charges are expected. The investigation was handled by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Midcoast District Task Force and assisted by local police departments.
