Karen Cole named associate director of Collins Center

Karen Cole will take over as the associate director of the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine, according to Cole’s Facebook post on July 2.

Cole will be leaving her position as Executive Vice President of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, where she began working in 2009 as the marketing and communications director.

“She brings a lot of experience in marketing and in the arts, and she is deeply connected to the Bangor area and the university,” said Collins Center executive director Danny Williams. “She’s familiar with the landscape and the Bangor scene, and I think she will help the Collins Center position itself appropriately in the new and ever-shifting landscape.”

Returning to her alma mater, Cole previously served as the business manager for the School of Performing Arts and also holds a degree in journalism from UMaine.

“After five years, I’m sprouting wings and leaving the Chamber,” said Cole, in her Facebook post. “I will miss my co-workers, but am happy about this new opportunity.”

Cole will take the place of Adele Adkins, who left the position earlier this year. In January, longtime executive director John Patches announced his retirement, effective Jan. 31. Williams was later hired as the interim director for a two-year term.
