PLYMOUTH, Maine — A home on the Old Farm road was gutted by fire Friday morning, according to officials.

The blaze sent firefighters from a handful of communities to the residence around 8:30 a.m., according to Plymouth Fire Lt. Bob Farrar.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, according to Farrar, and when firefighters from Plymouth, Etna, Dixmont, Newport and Detroit arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames.

With the house fully involved, Farrar said firefighters focused their efforts on an outside attack to save a garage that contained an apartment on the property.

The garage was not damaged, but the house was destroyed, the lieutenant said.

The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire.

Farrar said a cause and origin of the fire could not be determined because the damage was so significant.

The fire was under control around 11 a.m.
