SACO, Maine — A local convenience store was hit by an armed robber on Wednesday night, and police are searching for the suspect.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Extra Mart store on Elm Street, according to Saco Deputy Chief Jeff Holland.

Holland said a single male suspect entered the store, stated he was armed, told the clerk to give him cash and warned her not to call police.

The clerk placed an undisclosed amount of cash from a register into the robber’s backpack, and the robber subsequently fled, Holland said.

Police canvassed the scene and a state police canine performed a track on the suspect but he was not found, Holland said.

The robber is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, has shaggy, brown, medium-length hair and was wearing a dark-colored jacket with white stripes around the wrist with a white logo on the upper left chest. He was also wearing faded blue jeans and brown hiker-style shoes.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Saco police at 282-8216.
