ROCKLAND, Maine — The case of a maroon Kia Sephia stolen in Rockland Sunday night took on a new twist Wednesday.

The license plates from the stolen 2001 four-door sedan were found Wednesday in Waldoboro, near where a resident reported someone had stolen the license plates from her vehicle, according to Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower.

The Kia has not been located.

More information on the license plates stolen from Waldoboro was not immediately available. A telephone message left with the Waldoboro Police Department was not immediately returned.

The Kia was stolen from outside 165 Pleasant St. sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday, when the owner discovered that the vehicle was missing.

The keys were left in the vehicle.
