BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police detectives have arrested a 25-year-old local man in connection with the death Wednesday of a 5-month-old child in Bangor.
Samuel Moore is charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Korbyn Antworth, Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said Thursday afternoon in a news release. Moore is currently being held at Penobscot County Jail. Moore was employed as a caregiver for the child, she said.
Rumsey said that the infant died at Eastern Maine Medical Center a day after being taken there by ambulance from a residence on Griffin Road in Bangor. The state medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy Thursday morning but the cause of death is pending.
According to records the Bangor Daily News obtained Thursday evening from the State Bureau of Investigation, Moore’s criminal history in Maine dates to 2001, when he was a juvenile.
As an adult, he was ordered in 2006 to serve five days in jail and pay $57.32 in restitution for aggravated criminal mischief, his criminal history shows. In 2007, he was found guilty of felony burglary and felony theft, for which he received a 10-month jail sentence and one year of probation.
Moore’s most serious conviction to date came in 2008, when he was found guilty of arson, a Class A felony for which he served a nine-month sentence and was ordered to pay $6,779.46 restitution, his rap sheet shows. He also was convicted of misdemeanor drug possession, violating bail conditions and criminal trespass, according to the criminal history.
His most recent brush with the law before this week was his arrest on a warrant in November of last year, according to Penobscot County Jail officials. His address at that time was listed as Veazie.
The case remains under investigation by the Bangor Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Additional charges may be filed after the case is presented to the Penobscot County grand jury.
The Bangor Police CID will be working in conjunction with the Maine attorney general’s office as this case proceeds.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Moore’s criminal history in Maine dated to 1985. The correct year is 2001.
