Body found in Old Orchard Beach by sewage plant workers

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Old Orchard Beach sewage plant workers discovered a dead body Monday morning in a marshy area of Goosefare Brook, according to a Maine State Police spokesman.

Wastewater facility employees saw the body floating past the highwater mark of a brook tributary near a pump station in the Ocean Park section of town, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland told reporters in an email announcement late Monday afternoon. The workers made the discovery just before 8 a.m., McCausland stated.

Police have not yet identified the body, which investigators describe as a man in his 30s or 40s, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 150 pounds with long brown hair.

Police have not at this point classified the death as suspicious, according to McCausland, but an autopsy has been scheduled to take place as early as Tuesday morning to help determine a cause of death.

Investigators are also reviewing missing persons reports, and are asking anyone with information about a man matching the description to call the state police in Gray at 800-228-0857.
