GRAY, Maine — The State Fire Marshal’s Office arrested a Gray man Thursday in connection with an early morning fire that destroyed the mobile home he recently lived in.
Paul M. “Charlie” Barry, 50, is charged with arson and burglary, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Thursday in a news release.
According to investigators, Barry was evicted from the home located at 384 Shaker Road, also Route 26, on Dec. 1 and had been living with a friend elsewhere in Gray, McCausland said. The mobile home was owned by a former friend of Barry.
The fire was reported about 2 a.m. Thursday morning, McCausland said.
Barry returned to the fire scene mid-morning smelling of gasoline and was arrested after he was interviewed by fire marshal investigators.
Barry is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland and will make his first court appearance either Friday or Tuesday.
