AUBURN, Maine — A New Hampshire company on Monday announced that it has acquired one of Maine’s few remaining shoe manufacturers.

Pittsfield, N.H.-based Globe Manufacturing Co. has purchased Falcon Performance Footwear in Auburn, according to a news release.

The acquisition was official on Jan. 1. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Falcon, which has been making boots in Maine for more than 50 years, has changed its name to Globe Footwear LLC.

Globe Manufacturing produces apparel and boots for firefighters and other emergency personnel. In 2006, Falcon Performance Footwear received a contract from Globe to begin manufacturing a newly designed boot for firefighters. That contract led to the acquisition.

“In just seven short years, Globe boots have become a huge success in the fire service industry because of the expertise and skills of our employees in Auburn, who we recognize as our greatest asset,” Rob Freese, senior vice president of marketing at Globe Manufacturing, said in a statement.

Globe said in its release that it would retain all employees at the Auburn facility. A call to the Globe spokesperson for more details was not returned as of Monday afternoon.
