NORTH HAVEN, Maine — Three teenagers were injured Saturday afternoon in a snowmobile crash.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported to the Knox County Communications Center shortly before 4 p.m.

The investigation by Deputy Rob Potter found that the crash occurred near the Ames Point Road when the lead snowmobile, driven by Dillon Ames, 19, of North Haven, had slowed to turn. Ames did not realize that a snowmobile — driven by a 15-year-old North Haven girl with another 15-year-old North Haven girl as a passenger — was following closely behind him.

The second sled hit the lead sled broadside and all three teens were thrown from the vehicles, according to police.

All three were taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Penobscot Island Air for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

North Haven Fire and Rescue personnel assisted as they were first on scene. Protocol calls for the case to be turned over to the Maine Warden Service, the sheriff’s office stated. Warden Doug Kulis met the victims at the hospital.
