ORONO, Maine — A University of Maine employee was injured when the snowplow he was driving rolled over onto the driver’s side on Witter Farm Road off College Avenue at about 9 p.m. Friday.
Robert Vachon, 53, of Orrington works for the facilities management department, according to Margaret Nagel, spokeswoman for the university.
Vachon was salting the road to the university’s farm, she said Saturday afternoon. He had turned off College Avenue when the plow truck, loaded with rock salt and sand, when the accident happened.
He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Nagle said Sunday that she had not information about whether Vachon was admitted to the hospital or what his condition might be. She said that he was responsive to emergency medical personnel at the scene.
A nursing supervisor at the hospital said Sunday that she had no information about Vachon’s condition. For information to be released, patients must sign a consent form.
Nagel said that salt spilled onto the road but was cleaned up overnight. She said the Maine Department of Environment Protection was at the scene in an advisory capacity.
