Fender-bender at Half Acre leads to three arrests

Editor’s Note: On Sept. 14, 2014, Mark Gustin and D’Anna Mayer were found not guilty on all charges in connection with this incident.

BANGOR, Maine — A minor accident in the parking lot of a local nightclub led to three people going to jail early Sunday morning, police said.

The sequence of events started at 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle driven by Randy Reynolds, 29, of Bangor backed out of a parking space outside Half Acre Nightclub and into another car, Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said.

Investigation of the accident revealed Reynolds was under the influence, and after he was placed under arrest, police provided his two passengers, Mark Gustin, 24, of Etna and Gustin’s girlfriend, D’Anna Mayer, 21, of Etna, options to get home, but Rumsey said they grew uncooperative.

Gustin and Mayer both argued with police constantly, with Gustin exiting the vehicle and yelling obscenities at officers, according to Rumsey. He was issued criminal trespass and disorderly conduct warnings, and then started to leave.

Gustin returned to the scene and continued to verbally berate police, and was eventually arrested, Rumsey said. As police tried to place him in a cruiser, Mayer grabbed Officer Kim Donnell and tried to pull her away from Gustin, leading police to arrest Mayer.

Reynolds was charged with OUI, Gustin with refusing to submit to arrest, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct and Mayer obstructing government administration.
