HAMPDEN and CORINTH – Geraldine Leda Small, age 75, entered the embrace of the Lord Nov. 1, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Geraldine was born July 10, 1938, to Elizabeth and Hector Normand of Lewiston.
Geraldine is survived by her children, Michael Small and wife, Renee, of Corinth, Matthew Small and fiancée, Brenda Glidden, of Milford, and Barbara Van Uden and husband, Jim, of Hampden; and her grandchildren, Meghan Small, Elizabeth Van Uden Swazey and husband, Bronson, Katherine Small, Alex Van Uden, and Sean Small. She was predeceased by her son, Patrick Small.
Geraldine, known to her friends and family as “Gerri,” was an employee of Bangor Mental Health Institute as a dedicated and compassionate mental health worker and medication aide to geriatric patients for 20 years. She enjoyed the scenic Maine coast and cuisine (lobster rolls in particular), sewing, needle crafts, reading, family gatherings, admiring birds outside her window, watching favorite movies and television with family, and was an avid thimble collector. Geraldine was very proud and supportive of all her family’s accomplishments and plans for the future. All of her children, as well as two of her grandchildren, are veterans of The United States Armed Services. She was a dignified and strong yet gentle soul, whose smile and laugh were as genuine as her love and caring nature. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love of her family and friends carried her through her journey from this life to the next.
There will be a private graveside service at Milford Cemetery. Online condolences to the family and remembrances may be made at www.birminghamfuneralhome.com.
