MONROE, Maine — A family is staying with relatives after a Monroe house was leveled by a fire Saturday afternoon.

Toby Harrington was welding in the garage and had left for a short time to go to a local auto parts store, Fire Chief Ken Clements said. At about 3 p.m., a neighbor reported the fire.

The one-and-a-half story house was fully engulfed in flames when the first crew arrived, the chief said, pointing out that the house is a long way in from the road.

The home, attached garage and two vehicles were destroyed, he said.

There were no injuries from the fire, according to Clements.

Fire crews from Monroe, Brooks, Jackson, West Frankfort and Winterport, as well as a Brooks ambulance crew responded to the fire. The crews were at the scene until 8:30 p.m.
