MAPLETON – Arnold Eugene Gough, 76, died suddenly Oct. 23, 2013, at The Aroostook Medical Center. He was born April 7, 1937, in Presque Isle, the son of Herbert K. and Maude (Hoyt) Gough.
He grew up in Mapleton and graduated from Mapleton High School. He farmed until 1997 and then continued in the firewood business until his death. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, especially raspberries, and sharing the abundance with others, fishing, fiddleheading, and time spent with family. His faith and spirit were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Caroline (Keach) Gough of Mapleton; daughter, Diane and Ivan; sons, Robert and JoDel, and Douglas, all of Mapleton; grandchildren, Jessica of Houlton, Andrea of Jacksonville, Fla., Jason of Chapman, and JoLonna of Biddeford; and one great-grandson, Jared. He also leaves behind his three sisters, Eleanor Savoy and Maynard of Montrose, Colo., Alice Shepard and LeRoy of Mapleton, and Margaret Savoy and Marshall of Presque Isle. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Maude; and his father and mother-in-law, Rowland and Lucia (McCrea) Keach.
Friends and family may call 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Duncan Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Ralph Miller and Roger Smith officiating. Reception will follow the service there with interment at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton.
