BANGOR, Maine — A suspicious package found near the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot on Hogan Road turned out to be a cinder block wrapped in paper.

Bangor police Sgt. Jim Buckley confirmed Monday afternoon that the package did not contain explosives.

The package was found Monday morning in a grassy area near the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot.

The incident shut down Hogan Road from Kmart to Stillwater Avenue for much of the late morning but the road has since reopened and Buckley said “business is normal out there.”

Police were called to the scene when a Dunkin’ Donuts customer informed management of the package, according to Buckley. The department’s bomb squad was called in to investigate.

Buckley said the cinder block has been taken to Bangor’s police station to be examined for fingerprints and surveillance images from Dunkin’ Donuts will also be examined to determine whether charges will be filed.
