John J. Zimmerman Jr.

BANGOR – John J. Zimmerman Jr., 86, now sits at his Father’s table in heaven after hearing the call on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013. He was born May 17, 1927, in Baltimore, a son of John J. Sr. and Rita A. (Hummel) Zimmerman.
He leaves behind Dorothy, his wife and partner of 60 years. Together they shaped six children, each a success in their own right, eight grandchildren and one adorable great-grandchild. Jack, as he preferred, was quick to laugh. He loved his country; served with honor during the Korean War and instilled that love of country in his children. He loved his family, and did his best to support them all. The owner of the Blue Star Cabins and Jay and Dee Laundry in Old Town, he taught his children hard work and dedication. It was not always sunshine and flowers, but he did his best. He loved a good book and playing poker with the guys. He loved to tell stories about the old days. He has left a legacy of love, devotion, caring, and joy.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six children; daughter, Rita M. Raymond and her husband, Scott, and their children, Alec and Brandon; son, John J. Zimmerman III and his wife, Kerry, and their children, Jade T. Millar and her husband, Henry, and their daughter, Gabrielle, True F. Hesseltine, and Kara S. Zimmerman; daughter, Mary L. Beaumier and her husband, Joseph, and their son, Michael J.; daughter, Julie M. Zaetta and her husband, Mark, and their children, Alicia and Nickolas; son, Frank J. Zimmerman and his wife, Kathy; and son, Edward J. Zimmerman and his wife, Corey.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted noon Wednesday, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers, in the smile of a child, or the warm sun on your face. Please let those you love know how you feel and live each day to the fullest.
