MONTVILLE, Maine — Two women escaped injury Wednesday night after a collision at a Waldo County intersection notorious for crashes, police said.

Reva Hewey, 20, of Troy was heading northbound on Route 220 shortly after 6 p.m. when her vehicle collided with Linda Haskell, 70, of Liberty, who was driving south, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said.

The accident occurred where Route 220 meets Halldale Road, Trafton said. He added that the two vehicles got confused as to who had the right of way, causing them to collide.

Neither driver was seriously injured in the crash, which caused significant front-end damage to both vehicles.

Trafton said Hewey’s unfamiliarity with the area was a contributing factor in the accident.
