Bangor-area regional trail system, ‘Heart of Penobscot,’ seeking public involvement


A new group is forming in southern Penobscot County to plan a regional trail system that has recently been named “Heart of Penobscot Trails” or “HOP Trails” by online public vote, and group leaders are seeking group members from the 12 participating towns: Bangor, Hermon, Hampden, Orono, Brewer, Bradley, Veazie, Eddington, Holden, Milford, Old Town and Orrington.

The group is working to forms links between existing community trails and promote easy access to the recreational opportunities in the region.

The next full group meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 24 at Fields Pond Audubon Center at 216 Fields Pond Road in Holden.

Leading up to this meeting, localized work groups in participating towns will identify any current or potential trail linkages on local maps. To link up with your local group, call Alexia Corbett at 992-4462 or email alexia.corbett@bangormaine.gov.
