About 1,000 people turned out Saturday morning to watch the 34th Annual Hampden Children’s Day parade, which began at the Reeds Brook Middle School, proceeded through downtown Hampden, and ended on Western Avenue. Among the participating units were the Anah Shrine Bikers and Funsters, the Top Hat II dance school, and local Boy and Girl scouts.

After the parade, activities shifted to the Weatherbee School, where various groups entertained visitors or served food. A fireworks display will start at 8:30 p.m. near the Hampden Academy football field.
