BELFAST, Maine — Police said a Searsport man who allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend and a man he found at her house was arrested Monday.
Daniel Carchide, 32, went to the woman’s Belfast home on Sunday evening, according to a report from the Belfast Police Department. He assaulted the other man at the residence by punching him in the back of the head, Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said, adding that Carchide then grabbed his ex-girlfriend by the front of the shirt and pushed her.
After that, Carchide took off into the woods, but vanished by the time officers arrived, police said.
A Maine State Police K-9 unit assisted Belfast officers in the search, but one dog, Lola, discovered a porcupine instead of Carchide and had to be taken off his trail. Another dog was brought in to help but also could not find the missing man.
Carchide was picked up by the Searsport Police Department Monday, Cunningham said. He was charged with aggravated criminal trespass, domestic violence assault and assault, and then taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast.
He was released Tuesday afternoon on $1,000 cash bail, according to a jail official.
