OXFORD, Maine — A car left Skeetfield Road and struck several trees Sunday morning, rattling a mother and her young child.
According to Sgt. Rickie Jack of the Oxford Police Department, Veronika Christman, 22, of West Paris was traveling northbound with her 2-year-old son around 4 a.m. when her silver 2002 Saturn sedan left the roadway.
Jack said Christman crossed lanes before leaving the roadway and striking several trees, demolishing the vehicle.
According to Jack, the absence of brake marks on the pavement indicates that Christman fell asleep at the wheel
Despite complaints of pain, Christman signed off on rescue. Her child was uninjured.
Jack confirmed front airbags deployed, and Christman was belted in. The child, too, was properly restrained in his car seat.
