SACO, Maine — An Old Orchard Beach man who had been under investigation for illicit behavior was arrested by Saco police on Thursday.

Michael Smith, 46, is facing a charge of indecent conduct, Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland said Friday.

Detectives had been working undercover after police had received numerous complaints of suspicious behavior taking place at the Cascade Falls Brook Trails and the commuter parking lot on Industrial Park Road, Holland explained.

Plain-clothed and uniformed officers were utilized in both locations, the deputy chief said.

On Thursday, while Det. Fred Williams was checking the Industrial Park Road location, Smith exposed his genitals to the officer and began sexually touching himself.

Williams approached as Smith continued the behavior, the deputy chief said, upon which Smith asked the officer to expose himself. Smith was subsequently arrested and transported to the Saco police station.

He was later released after posting $160 bail, Holland said. His court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 16.
