Police seek suspect who allegedly attempted to abduct woman in Sanford

SANFORD, Maine — Police are investigating an alleged attempted abduction in Sanford in which a young woman managed to escape.

The 18-year-old victim was walking along Eastern Avenue on Friday evening when a Kia Soul stopped on the road and the male driver attempted to force the woman into the vehicle, according to a statement from Sanford police.

The victim and the suspect wrestled briefly before the woman freed herself and and fled the scene, the statement said.

The suspect subsequently fled in the vehicle.

The suspect is described as between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with long, black shaggy hair and an unkempt beard. Anyone who knows where the suspect is should contact Sanford police at 324-9170.
