Single-vehicle crash in Harrison kills South Portland man

By Matthew Daigle, Sun Journal

HARRISON, Maine — A South Portland man was killed in an early morning crash after his car struck a tree, according to Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher C. Pierce, 32, was found shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday by a passing motorist near the intersection of Waterford Road and Rolfe Road, Goulet said.

The motorist reportedly saw Pierce’s 2008 Kia Spectra crashed into a tree while driving north on Waterford Road. Pierce was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Harrison Fire Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office were the first to arrive at the scene of the crash, along with EMS personnel. After a preliminary investigation, police suspect that Pierce lost control while driving and hit the tree, though they remain unsure if speed or some other factor was involved.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Goulet said that the accident remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff Office’s Accident Recon Team and Detective Bureau.
