Portland police investigating report of gun fired into house with sleeping residents

PORTLAND, Maine — Police are investigating a report of gunshots that were fired on Madison Street early Friday.

City spokeswoman Nicole Clegg said a firearm was discharged around 4:25 a.m. and at least one bullet entered 23 Madison St.

The residents were sleeping in a room when the bullet entered the house, according to Clegg, but nobody was injured.

Police are seeking information from anybody who may have witnessed the incident.
