Bangor police arrest man who allegedly assaulted girlfriend

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested late Wednesday afternoon after an apparent fight with his girlfriend, police said.

Officer Dustin Dow was dispatched to the area of Cumberland and Center streets around 6:20 p.m. when it was reported a man and woman were physically fighting, Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

When police arrived, they noticed the woman’s left knee was bleeding and her mouth was bleeding, according to Edwards, and when police went to arrest 28-year old Alexander Pelkey, she became uncooperative.

“She kept telling them to let him go,” said Edwards.

That didn’t happen, and police wound up taking Pelkey to jail and charging him with domestic violence assault.
