Orono woman charged with disorderly conduct after failing to shut down large party

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

ORONO, Maine — A loud party that lasted well into Wednesday morning ended with the host being charged with disorderly conduct, according to police.

Regina Smith, 21, of Orono had been warned to shut down a gathering of about 15 people at an apartment at the corner of Mill and Pleasant Streets, according to Orono police Sgt. Scott Lajoie.

Officer Wilfred Kane had originally gone to the residence at 11:54 p.m. Tuesday, and when he arrived, he could hear loud music and people screaming, the sergeant said.

Smith told police she was having a birthday party for a friend, and was given a disorderly conduct warning, Lajoie said. Most of the partygoers subsequently left the residence.

At 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, police were called back to the scene when there was more loud music blaring from the residence, the sergeant said.

This time, Smith was issued a summons for disorderly conduct but not arrested, according to Lajoie.
