HAMPDEN — Matt Palmer’s two-out, two-run single highlighted a four-run fourth inning that lifted Hampden to a 6-5 American Legion doubleheader sweep over Brewer in baseball action Monday night.
After Palmer’s single tied the game at 4-4, Will Perkins stole home on a double steal with Palmer to give Hampden the lead and Justin Kasprzak followed with an RBI single for a pivotal run and 6-4 lead before Brewer answered with a run in the top of the seventh.
Hampden won the first game 2-0.
Palmer finished with three singles in the first game and Matt Martin added two. Perkins came on in relief in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded to earn the save. He threw a wild pitch to score Brewer’s Nick Moore, but then struck out the next two batters to secure the win for Jared Cox.
Tyler Maguire sparked Brewer with three singles while Ben Pushard and Logan Rogerson each added two. Chase Allen finished with two singles, including a two-run hit in the sixth.
In the first game, Tristan Gardner scattered five hits while walking only one to earn the win for Hampden.
Palmer chipped in with a single, double and RBI while Perkins and Andrew Giosia each added a double and run.
Pushard singled twice for Brewer and Jon Stanhope doubled. Kyle Alexander absorbed the tough loss, giving up eight hits while striking out eight and walking one.

At Millinocket, Justin Courtney struck out eight to help the Bangor Comrades beat the Northern Lumber 12-1 in an American Legion baseball game Monday night.
Curtis Worcester paced 17-1 Bangor with two singles and two RBI while Tyler Laplante added a double and two RBI.
Griffin Libby singled and tripled for the 6-12 Lumber.
At Bangor on Sunday, the Comrades rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth, with Riley McKay providing the game-winning single, en route to the victory.
Ben Crichton led off with a single, advanced to second on a Jordan Treadwell single and to third on a Ryan Brookings sacrifice to set up McKay’s winning hit.
The Acadians overcame an eight-run deficit with six runs in the seventh inning and three in the ninth inning and received a strong relief pitching effort by Tony Bianco.
Curtis Worcester sparked Bangor with two triples, a double and three RBI. Sam Huston added a double, single and RBI and Andrew Hillier singled twice and drove in a run. Justin Courtney recorded a triple and RBI and Kyle Stevenson had a double, single and RBI.
Ben Walls paced the Acadians with a triple, two singles and an RBI. Joe Archambault chipped in with three singles and three RBI. Jon Phelps, Bianco and Steve Hanscom each added two singles.
