Investigators can’t determine cause of fatal New Limerick explosion

By Jen Lynds, BDN Staff

NEW LIMERICK, Maine — Investigators with the state fire marshal’s office said Thursday that they may never know what caused an explosion that killed a New Limerick man as he was working in a storage building on his property on Wednesday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Thursday morning that investigators had completed their investigation at the home of Budsen Anderson, 79.

They were unable to determine the cause of an explosion and fire that killed the former teacher and leveled the building.

McCausland said that just prior to the explosion, Anderson had been in his backyard storage building working on lawn equipment.

Several neighbors heard the explosion that took place about 2:45 p.m.
