WELLS, Maine — The Wells-Ogunquit School Committee has selected its next superintendent of schools.

Ellen H. Schneider, who is currently assistant superintendent for MSAD 1 in Presque Isle, will begin her duties as Wells-Ogunquit Community School District’s superintendent July 1.

MSAD 1 encompasses the towns of Castle Hill, Chapman, Mapleton, Presque Isle and Westfield.

According to the district, Schneider has 31 years of professional experience as an educator. In addition to 11 years as an elementary special education teacher, she has been a special education director, assistant principal, principal, curriculum director and assistant superintendent of schools.

Schneider graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a Bachelor of Science in K-12 special education and elementary education. She earned a Master of Science in educational leadership from the University of Southern Maine and is currently a doctoral student at Walden University.

Schneider will replace Elaine Tomaszewski, who resigned last December. Bill Richards has been serving as interim superintendent since Tomaszewski’s resignation.
