Alberta A. ‘Berta’ Gamble


WINTERPORT – Alberta “Berta” (Low) Gamble, 88, passed away peacefully June 11, 2013 after a brief illness at a Bangor health care facility. Alberta was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Beverly, Mass., to Burton and Rachel (Sargent) Low.
Alberta graduated from Beverly High School, Beverly, Mass., class of 1942. She was a member and past president of Winterport Women’s Club, member of Dianna Chapter, O.E.S., Beverly, Mass., member of the Star in the East, Chapter, O.E.S., Hampden, and member of Ramassoc Chapter, D.A.R., Bucksport.
Berta is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Elmer W. Gamble of Winterport; sons, Bill Gamble of Hampden and Dean Gamble and wife, Linda, of Winterport; daughters, Judith Gamble Adams of Bangor and Susan Denley and husband, William, of Wakefield, N.H.; grandchildren, Christine Morrison, Jeremiah Gamble, Amanda Burke, Zachary Gamble, Jayson Adams, James Adams, Geoffrey Denley, Andrew Denley, Brad Denley, Richard Gamble, Russell Gamble and David Gamble; great-grandchildren, William, Sophia and Katie Morrison; sisters, Cynthia Low and Diana Richards; two cousins, Sally and Ann; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. Berta was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Barbara Crandall and Ellen Walter.
Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A funeral service celebrating Berta’s life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, at Hampden Congregational Church, 101 Main Road N., Hampden, with the Rev. William Walsh Jr. officiating. Interment will be private at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Berta’s honor may be made to the Winterport Library, P.O.
