Ripley earns Sportsman’s victory at Wiscasset Speedway

WISCASSET — Despite some early morning rain, Wiscasset Speedway was ready to roll at race time Saturday night and Darren Ripley of Thomaston went on to record a victory in a 45-lap Late Model Sportsman race.

On a restart after the 17th lap, Ripley was the leader with Nick Hinkley of Wiscasset behind him and Doug Coombs of Livermore Falls in third and Nick Reno in fourth.

Leaders remained the same until lap 35 when the fifth caution of the race was called when Hinkley spun on the track and collected Reno and Steve Minott of Windham in the jumble. They all headed to the back of the pack.

When the race resumed Ripley maintained first, Coombs second, and Corey Walker of New Vineyard moved up to third. The leaders kept their positions until the end of the race with Shane Kane of Kingfield finishing fourth and Tyler Robbins of Montville taking fifth..
