BANGOR, Maine — A 27-year-old local man was arrested Monday afternoon after being accused of assaulting a female family member, according to police.

Dwayne Bell and the woman were pushing and yelling at each other outside Shaw’s supermarket on Main Street, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

The woman returned to her Patten Street residence and called police. The officers arrived before Bell. Upon his arrival he denied any physical activity between the pair, Edwards said.

Statements from the woman, witnesses and marks on the woman led police to arrest Bell, who was brought to Penobscot County Jail and charged with domestic violence assault, Edwards said.

Bell remained at the jail Tuesday morning.
