VINALHAVEN – Donna Amy (Woodcock) Ames, 76, wife of Addison W. Ames Sr., passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at Ivan Calderwood Homestead, Vinalhaven. She was the daughter of Donald and Amy (Columb) Woodcock.
Donna attended Vinalhaven schools. Donna married Addison Wallace Ames April 8, 1953, in Vinalhaven. A devoted wife and mother, Donna also worked for her mother who owned the Seabreeze Restaurant. The restaurant developed a fine reputation for the best crab rolls for miles around. The popularity of crab rolls was attributed to Donna who carefully processed and shelled thousands of pounds of crabmeat for 24 years until 1972 when she retired. Donna always enjoyed riding her bicycle throughout the island. She also accompanied her husband when going to haul for lobsters filling his bait bags and working the boat.
Surviving is her husband, Addison W. Ames Sr.; four children, Daniel Ames and wife, Linda Whittington, Diane Olson and husband, Mark, Donald C. Ames and wife, Jeanne Bineau, and Addison W. Ames Jr.; sister, Dorothea Ames; three grandchildren, Hilary Walker, Elijah Bineau Ames and Owen Bineau Williams; great-grandson, Bentley Eaton; mother-in-law, Ruth Ames; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Donald Woodcock.
A memorial service will be announced in July.
