BANGOR, Maine — A local transient who decided to beat Sunday’s heat by taking a dip in the Kenduskeag Stream ended up facing a charge for being naked in public, according to police.
Ernest Neiders, 55, was cooling off under the Interstate 95 bridge shortly after 4:30 p.m. when a woman and her daughter saw him nude and called police, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.
Officer Mike Brennan responded, and by the time he got there, Neiders was wearing a pair of shorts, according to Edwards.
When the officer asked Neiders why he was skinny dipping in the stream, the man replied that “he didn’t want to wear wet shorts back to his place,” Edwards said.
Neiders was not arrested but Brennan charged him with indecent conduct, the sergeant said.
