Orrington’s 225th Celebration organizers seek parade participants

ORRINGTON — The Orrington Old Home Week committee is organizing the biggest parade Orrington has ever seen. In recognition of Orrington’s 225th anniversary, the town of Orrington will present a 1.5-mile parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, along Route 15. Businesses, clubs, families, schools, neighborhoods, organizations and friends are invited to enter a float, vehicle, marching unit or participant. The theme is “Orrington’s Past, Present and Future.” The route will start at Deer Run and will continue south on Route 15 to the PERC entrance. Set-up will begin at 9 a.m. A rain date is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, July 14.

Five prizes of $100 each will be awarded for Best Themed, Most Original, Best Business, Best Community and Best Educational participant. Judges will view the parade from the judging grandstand on Baker Hill, 321 River Road.

There is no charge to participate, but participants must register in advance by Monday, June 29. Entry forms are available at orrington.govoffice.com and at the Orrington Town Office.

After the parade, units will be invited to continue to Center Drive School for the Post-Parade Expo. Parade participants can park their vehicles in designated areas and set up displays. This will allow guests to see the floats and vehicles up close and talk with the various groups and businesses. The Post-Parade Expo entry deadline is also June 29.
